DR recalls ambassador in Haiti for consultations

The government of the Dominican Republic has recalled its ambassador in Haiti, Ruben Silie, for consultations on recent actions by the authorities of the neighboring country, which violate the Joint Declaration signed by both countries for the resolution of the situation linked to sentence 168-13 by the Constitutional Tribunal. In a press release issued yesterday, Wednesday 27 November, acting Foreign Relations Minister Jose Manuel Trullols said that the country had taken this decision after Haiti flouted the agreement signed after a meeting in Venezuela on 19 November, in which both countries committed to “prioritizing dialogue before any other avenue” for the resolution of situations related to the people affected by this sentence.

“In the meeting of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), held on Tuesday in Trinidad and Tobago, the Haitian authorities put into evidence a frank violation of the Joint Declaration, for which we are under the obligation of calling our ambassador in Haiti for consultations in order to deal with this issue with the due care it requires,” said Trullols. He reported that the diplomatic mission in Haiti would be headed by the Charge d’Affaires, Pastor Vasquez. The decision was communicated to the Haitian ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Fritz Cineas, who was called in by Trullols to a meeting at the Foreign Ministry.
