Dominican authorities including the National Drug Control Agency, working closely with the US Coast Guard, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Colombian and Dominican authorities, have announced the seizure of around 1,000 kilos of cocaine on board a speedboat in international waters headed for the southwest of the country. According to a DNCD report, three Venezuelans were arrested, identified as Jose Velazquez, Isael Jose Moya and Carlos Alberto. They were transported to the Sans Souci Port by US authorities where they were subsequently sent to the San Isidro Air Base and from there they were transported on a DEA airplane to Miami to stand trial. “This is a trafficking network that according to DNCD intelligence sought to penetrate Dominican territory to subsequently take the drugs to the US,” said DNCD president Major General Souffront Velazquez. He said that several mobile phones, personal documents, a GPS with the coordinates of the drug transport route from South America, and gasoline tanks were confiscated as proof of the operation. Major General Souffront Velazquez, chief of the Air Force major General Manuel Hernandez Hernandez and the chief of the Armada (Navy) Vice Admiral Edwin Dominici Rosario were present for the delivery of the accused to the US authorities.
“We are making a big effort to move the frontline of the interdiction of drugs further away, to stop any attempt to import the drugs into Dominican territory,” said Major General Velazquez, as reported in Listin Diario.
