Exports up 17% in 2013

The director of the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD) Jean Alain Rodriguez said that exports in 2013 are up around RD$1 billion compared to 2012. He said there was a 17% increase in exports to around US$10 billion Rodriguez said that exports have usually grown by 4-5%.

He said that a positive accomplishment has been the success of programs to reduce the returns of exported products from the European Union, down 30%, and from the United States, down 40%.

Regarding foreign investment, the CEI-RD director estimated the year-end investment total would be around US$2 billion. He said the foreign investment total would not take into account the purchase of Orange and Tricom by the European firm of Altice because it was a case of a foreign company purchasing another foreign company.
