Cuban Felix Perez hit a homerun with two on base to give the Tigres del Licey a 6-4 victory over the stubborn Gigantes del Cibao and take back second place in the standings yesterday, Wednesday 15 January. The Tigres took advantage of errors by the Gigantes to score five runs in the fifth inning. The victory gave the Tigres a record of 8-8 and a one-game advantage over their closest rival, the Gigantes.
Meanwhile, in the venerable Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, the Leones del Escogido defeated the Aguilas Cibaenas by a score of 2-0, where once again the pitching by the Leones held the bats of the Aguilas at bay. The loss puts the Aguilas on the cusp of disqualification for the final section of the tournament that will be disputed between the top two teams in this round-robin section. The Aguilas only managed to get two men to second base as the Leones’ pitchers kept them in check all night long. Eury Perez was the hero for the Leones with two RBIs.
