The Dominican Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) announced it will build a 345,000 volt optical fiber cable transmission line between Santo Domingo and Santiago (and linked to the Navarette substation). The optical fiber highway is estimated to cost US$115 million and the government has held talks with Deutsche Bank for funding. Engineer Cesar Sanchez, CDEEE administrator, said that the works to build the electricity and data transmission line would begin 16 August.
S?nchez spoke to the press after taking part in an event organized by the Projecto Presidencial Hip?lito (PPH), the political movement to promote the re-election of President Hipolito Mej?a.
He said that when Mejia returns from the US he will meet with representatives of the Siemens Corporation to advance on the project.
As reported in the Listin Diario, he said the link will resolve the power problems of the Cibao region. He said that future generation parks will be installed in the southern region of the country to take advantage of the facilities for docking of tankers from Mexico and Venezuela.
