The director of the Dominican Sugar Institute, (INAZUCAR), Casimiro Ramos, says that the country exported around 80,000 tons of sugar to the European market in 2013 and that they are expecting to export the same amount this year.
He said that they received around US$200 million from exports of sugar and by-products to markets in Europe and the United States.
He went on to say that production was in full swing and they did not have to import any sugar in 2013 in order to meet local market demands.
