Capotillo residents find fault in investigations

Residents in Capotillo neighborhood and the relatives of three citizens assassinated there last week told the press they do not accept the conclusions in a report prepared by the Attorney General of the Republic. As reported in Hoy newspaper, community spokesmen Abel Rojas, Danilo de la Cruz and Luis Duran said their own investigations show there were six people involved in the killings. They do not accept the Attorney General’s report that says there are only three principal suspects – two police agents and a civilian, Hector Bienvenido Cross Espinosa. Francisco Dominguez Brito, former District Attorney, and executive director of the Foundation for Institutionality and Justice (Finjus), criticizes that the report did not explain who Cross was working for. TV videos show that the police protected him as he advanced into Capotillo with a gun in his hand. It raises the issue of the so-called paramilitary personnel, which critics urge should now be a matter of the past.
