28-year old Wendy Gaton Tejada was shot to death by a police agent who was part of a patrol sent to the Barrio Libertador, a low income neighborhood in the Herrera sector of Santo Domingo. There had been protests in that area against the long blackouts. The young woman was on her way home from university when the incident occurred. The police agent says his firearm accidentally discharged but bystanders say he shot her in the back deliberately. A police spokesman said the agent was fired and will be charged. The woman leaves a husband and a four year old son.
