Edwin Núñez, husband of the 28-year old victim of a police shooting, called for justice yesterday. I believe that the Police, as an institution, need to give from top to bottom, vertically, more signals that it wants dignity. That it wants zero impunity. When there are gestures, words, messages, actions, the messages are clear in an institution where most of the members, as we all know, are not even high school graduates. All I want is justice, but civil justice, he said. Dogs cannot judge dogs, because they are hunting partners, he said, requesting that the responsible be judged in a public court not a police court. The police so far have arrested only the agent who admitted firing the deadly shot. Núñez said there were four other agents and a lieutenant on the same patrol who were also involved. He said the body of his wife was dragged and loaded into a patrol car to be taken to the hospital. If there was any life left in her, she lost it then, he said, speaking to the Gobierno de la Mañana morning talk show. Núñez also asked that the name of his deceased wife, Wendy, not be used by groups that are known to use violence to seek benefits supposedly for their communities. He said the struggles of these groups have not lead to any benefits.
