Coping with the heat wave

A heat wave is affecting the Dominican Republic bringing temperatures to record highs these days. Temperatures of 33-35 degrees at noon in Santo Domingo are normal and add to the normal stress of city-living. Cardiologist Fulgencio Severino, interviewed by Hoy newspaper, urges that those suffering through the summer heat drink lots of water, take frequent baths to cool off, exercise only in the early morning and late afternoon or evenings, eat light meals, and wear light clothes to avoid developing heart conditions.
