Physicians at the Centro de Gastroenterologia of the Luis Eduardo Aybar public hospital say that cancer of the colon is up significantly among Dominicans. They attribute this to diet changes in the past 10 years. The physicians said there has been an increase in fried foods and fast food consumption over the past decade. He said their statistics show 2,664 cases of colon cancer over this period. Doctors Jose Bonnet, director of the center, and deputy director Mariana Urbaez urged Dominicans to return to a diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables.
