Dominican apparel export volume to the US declined 14.48% from January to April 2001. During that period 22,424 square meters of clothes were exported. The value in US$ of those exports, nevertheless, only declined 0.17%. The stagnation is attributed to the slowdown of the US economy and the competition from El Salvador and Honduras. From January to April of 2001, the DR exported US$715 million, compared to US$716 million in 2000, as reported in the Listin Diario.
