The Navy announced the arrest, in an operation in coordination with the US Coast Guard, of the crew that sought to take 40 illegal travelers to Puerto Rico. The ship was ordered to stop at around 10 pm on Friday night when caught departing without authorization along the Cumayasa River in La Romana. The crew did not heed the warning, and instead fired at the Navy ship. The Navy then called the US Coast Guard that assisted it in capturing the ship 15 nautical miles from Saona Island.
