Carlos Andres Perez flown to Miami for heart trouble

Former two-time Venezuelan president Carlos Andres Perez (1974-78 and 1989-93), who has been a resident in the DR for some time now was flown to Miami’s Cedar Hospital on an ambulance jet after suffering from a worsening of his heart condition. His medics at the Corazones Unidos clinic recommended the transfer. Perez chose to live in the DR instead of Venezuela where he was charged with misappropriating government funds and was suspended from office in December, 1993. He is said to have made major covert investments in the DR. Press reports say that his presence here and support of the Mejia administration has caused rifts between the relations of President Hipolito Mejia and President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.
