Jose Joaquin Puello, president of the Organizing Committee of the 2003 Pan American Games said that the gymnastics pavilion for the Games would be built where the Arte y Oficios vocational school in Ensanche La Fe was located. The pavilion has a tab of RD$48 million. Originally it would have gone up in the Mirador del Este Park, but former President Joaquin Balaguer, under whose government the park was built, opposed its construction there.
