Who’s the strongest man in the world?

The National Strength Athletics Association chose Santo Domingo for the Latin American stop of the 2001 World Strongman Competition Tour. Some of the world’s strongest men are on tour of 18 cities in the US, Europe and Asia as well Santo Domingo. The men will compete Saturday, 28 July and Sunday, 29 July at the arena of the Feria Ganadera on the Malecon. Events include the farmer’s walk, stones of strength and the keg toss for height among others. Admission is RD$75. Fourteen world-class strength athletes from the US, Canada, Norway, Australia and the Virgin Islands will go head to head in this world-class strength athletics competition. Punta Lanes is a RD$16 million investment and would be the second bowling lane in operation in the DR. The Sebelen Bowling Alley in Santo Domingo has hosted world championships. The bowling alley is scheduled to open in December with a 2-9 December US$50,000 prize money international tournament will be held. Manuel Fernandez, president of Punta Lanes said that a qualifying tournament with the eight best players from around the world would be hosted in March 2002. (19 July 2001)
