The Municipality of Santo Domingo has banned the installation of giant billboards in Santo Domingo and ordered the dismantling of existing ones. The measure was taken by city hall after torrential rains and gusts produced by a recent thunderstorm toppled several of them in Santo Domingo. The 100 kilometer per hour gusts revealed the fragility of the signs and the dangers they represent to people and property. Municipal regulations stipulate signs should be able to resist winds of up to 180 kilometers per hour.
