A productivity study carried out at Francisco Moscoso Puello Hospital shows that 40% of the 220 physicians on staff there do not see patients at the center and only visit to collect their wages. The study also revealed that most of the resident physicians have set their own working hours. The deputy director of the hospital, Manuel Abreu, said this is a practice that dates back years. He said there are six neurosurgeons and heart surgeons on staff, but the hospital does not offer these services to patients. He said the hospital is now proceeding to warn the physicians that they must meet their work contracts or be fired.
