Downgraded to a tropical depression, Dean missed the Dominican Republic as it sped north of the island bringing only rain showers. August and September are the peak months of the Caribbean Basin hurricane season which ends 30 November. Weather forecasters say that more storms are on the way. A small tropical wave is located near 10 North and 45 West and could develop in the next few days. The wave is expected to cross the Lesser Antilles on Saturday. Of even more concern to the DR is a large wave that weather experts are tracking. The system is moving off the west coast of Africa and may threaten the Caribbean islands as a tropical storm or hurricane in five to seven days.
