CDE refuses to buy power at 13 cents

The administrator of the Dominican electricity utility, CDE, said the Smith Enron plant is shut down, causing long power outages especially in the north, because the government refuses to pay the asking price per kilowatt. Smith Enron is demanding 13 cents per kilowatt/hour. The government says it will not pay more than the nine cents/kilowatt it is getting from other producers. He called the shut down of the plant “blackmail” by the company. He left the doors open for renewed talks if Smith Enron accepts the market price.
