Rafael Molina Morillo, a former Dominican ambassador in the US and long time newspaper editor, urged former President Leonel Fernandez to heed the call to visit the Department for the Prevention of Corruption. “Go, doctor, go. And motivate your fellow government members to do the same. Nobody is accusing you, and even if they were, take the proof and your arguments.” Molina said that public attention is on the politician. “It is a magnificent opportunity to give an example of respect for the law, which you may then take advantage of in the future, for example in 2004,” he writes. Fernandez, who was not constitutionally allowed to run in the presidential election of 2000, is considered the man to beat in the 2004 presidential election.
