For many months, the press has focused on legislators’ desire for a reform to the Constitution that would allow them to extend their terms two more years. They say they want this change so that presidential and congressional elections occur at the same time. Political analysts have explained the real intent is to prolong their tenure in Congress and prolong the PRD majority. Hoy newspaper speculates in an article today that apparently PRD Congressmen are so sure this change will be made that they have neglected campaigning. On the other hand, PRSC and PLD congressmen and municipal candidates have been active.
