Health Department sends medical residents to universities

Jose Rodriguez Soldevila of the Ministry of Health said the government will no longer pay medical residents who are doing their internships at public hospitals. He said doctors who want to participate in state hospital specialization programs will as of next year have to pay tuition to universities for this program. He said the decision was taken to avoid conflicts in this area. Residents recently stopped work for a day at the Robert Reid Children’s Hospital in protest over the government owing them two months in wages. He said the government would grant scholarships to the physicians it needs for the public hospitals.
