Environment vs. Public Works over Mirador del Sur Park

The Ministry of Environment has ordered a stop to works being done by the Ministry of Public Works at the Mirador del Sur Park. The order to stop construction was issued on grounds that permission had not been requested from the Environment Ministry to build the boulevard. The need to do so is established in a law passed in August 2000. The construction of the boulevard at the park met with opposition from the park’s users. Hoy newspaper is also leading a campaign against the paving, saying that the park only needs better maintenance, new light bulbs and not a multimillion peso investment in a boulevard around its 13 kilometer perimeter.
