Debating the new world outlook

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode) is sponsoring a debate on the world situation in the wake of the 11 September events. “The First War of the 21st Century: Perspectives and Questions” will feature eight international affairs specialists, four from the DR and four from abroad, who will debate the new world situation. The event will take place on Thursday, 4 October at 7:30 pm at the Salon Anacaona of the Hotel Jaragua. The floor will be open to questions at the end of the presentations. On the panel are former President Leonel Fernandez, political analyst Jose Israel Cuello, former DR ambassador to the Organization of American States Flavio Dario Espinal, and former DR trade negotiator Frederic Emam-Zade. Foreign speakers are Harry Vanden, professor of international relations and former director of Latin American studies of South Florida University in Tampa, Meindert Fennema, professor of political theory at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in Holland, Eduardo Gamarra, director of the Center of Latin American Studies at the Florida International University and Philip McLean, former deputy secretary of management and counsellor of the secretary general of the OAS.
