Supreme Court rules in favor of 1.5% tax

Yesterday, the Supreme Court rejected a court challenge against the government?s 1.5% advance tax on expected revenues. A business group called the C?mara de Comercio y de la Peque?a Empresa de Sabana Perdida launched the legal action saying the monthly tax is unconstitutional.  The group considers the tax on anticipated revenues to be an attack on business, maintaining that all taxes should be fair and in proportion to earnings over a period of time. Moreover, they claim the advance tax will close thousands of businesses.  However, the high court rejected their claim saying the tax was established by law and was created legally in Congress. The court?s decision said ?the advance tax collection on gross revenues does not constitute an additional tax.?
