According to a survey conducted by the Central Bank on the labor market last year, there were 515,000 unemployed Dominicans. That number represents 13.9% of those able to work. Listin says the highest percentages were recorded in the National District, reflecting the impact of migration from the countryside to Santo Domingo. In the capital, 16.6% were unemployed. Rural areas reported a jobless rate of 10.9%.
