Banking authorities are warning people to be on the lookout for phony 50 peso bills now in circulation. The forged bills are printed on a paper similar to that used by the Central Bank to print real money. Officials told Listin Diario that the forgeries are almost perfect copies, including the colors, the image of the cathedral in Hig?ey, the letters and the signatures of the Central Bank governor and secretary of finance. But the bills lack the water mark image of Juan Pablo Duarte inside the white circle and the security tape running through the bill that says ?cincuenta pesos?.
