President Hipolito Mejia visited the El Caribe newspaper yesterday to attend the formal opening of the daily’s renovated building. The more than 50-year-old newspaper is published by the Banco Popular financial group. Today it boasts the most modern and complete offices of any Dominican media group. The building was dedicated to German Emilio Ornes, editor of the newspaper from 1962-1998. Bernardo Vega, former Dominican ambassador to the US government, is the current editor in chief.
