Building a provisional bridge over Ozama River

The Ministry of Public Works expects the provisional bridge going up besides Ramón Matías Mella bridge to be ready by the end of this month. Once the two barges are connected to two reinforced concrete ramps being built by Samuel Conde & Asociados, traffic will be discontinued over the 45-year old Juan Pablo Duarte Bridge in order to allow for major repairs. An estimated 60,000 cars pass over the four-lane Duarte bridge every day. Each barge will be 150 meters long by 25 meters wide, enough for three lanes in each direction.
