PanAm notes

Maria Espencer is looming as a possible medallist at the upcoming PanAm Games in Santo Domingo. Training twice a day under the watchful eyes of Bol?var Pinales, her trainer ever since she came out of San Pedro de Macoris, Espencer is looking at medals in the triple jump and the long jump. Currently, she is the Central American champion in the latter event.
Archery is facing problems with the installation. According to the president of the federation of archery, the archery field has some serious technical defects that must be corrected in time for the games or there is a very distinct possibility that the event could be cancelled. According to federation statements the problems are mostly of levels and backstops necessary for the 90 meter events. If the Archery Stadium is not certified in time, the solution would be to change the football schedule to use the football stadium as the venue for archery.
The Medical Director of the games, Dr. Milton Pineda, said that the organization and equipping of the doping lab has been the toughest thing they have had to do for the Games. PASO, the Pan American Sports Organization, requires facilities for analysis of very sophisticated performance enhancing drugs and hormones. Pineda said the lab is finished and awaiting its certification.
Mountain biking, rowing and canoeing will take place in Jarabacoa, according to Alexis Garc?a. The competitors will be lodged at Alpes Dominicana and the Salesian Center of Don Bosco.
