Cold virus affects Santo Domingo

The Ministry of Public Health alerted the population to a cold virus that is affecting Dominicans. Dr. Octavio Ceballos said that the virus is less virulent than last year’s virus known as "Kosovo." He said it primarily affects those with weak immune systems. He urged people in the DR to drink lots of fluids, constantly wash their hands and avoid contact with large groups where there could be affected people. Dr. Salvador Martínez, president of the Neumology Society, said that the temperature changes bring an onset of colds. The present strain of influenza produces fever, headache, and muscle pains and can last four to five days. Those catching the virus are urged to drink lots of fluids, eat well and avoid taking antibiotics.
