Supreme Court judge denounces finger picking of judges

Dr. Rafael Luciano Pichardo, who is substitute judge to the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Dr. Jorge Subero Isa, will not attend the next general assembly of Supreme Court justices. With his absence, Dr. Pichardo protests what he describes as the authoritarian and anti-democratic methods being unilaterally implemented by the president of the Judicial Branch, Dr. Subero Isa. Dr. Pichardo said that the nation’s judges are being chosen from lists made up in Dr. Subero’s office. He criticized that the later has abandoned the consensus method whereby the core of Supreme Court judges would vote on candidates. He says that judges that had been objected are being chosen, and said that what is back is the method used by the Senate of the Republic that politicized the appointment of judges in the DR.
