The Dominican Republic opened the special days dedicated to the 189 countries that are participating in the Expo 2000 World Fair of Hanover, Germany. Merengue music drew the attention of the thousands that visited the fair yesterday. Sistema Temperado opened the Dominican show with Compadre Pedro Juan merengue. Immediately, those present broke the protocol of the event to dance to the beat of the catchy tune. In the evening, Josefina Miniño’s folklore ballet taught Germans and fair visitors how merengue is best danced. Technical Secretary of the Presidency Temístocles Montás and Minister of Tourism Felix Jiménez head the Dominican delegation to the fair. The Dominican government reportedly invested US$725,000 in the 300-square meter exhibition that will be open for the next five months at Pavilion 21.
