US Airways announced today an Aruba, Netherlands Antilles-Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic connection starting 12 November 2000. This opens up the possibility of selling vacations to Aruba and the Dominican Republic to the American market. US Airways has already announced it will operate one daily flight between Philadelphia and Aruba and between Philadelphia and Santo Domingo this winter season. This is part of a US Airways general expansion plan that also includes new flights to Cancun, Mexico and Nassau, Bahamas. "These popular destinations continue to draw large numbers of vacation travelers from around the world. With these new flights, US Airways will offer a wider variety of choices for travel to and from Mexico and the islands of the Caribbean," said Gregory T. Taylor, US Airways’s senior vice president of planning. US Airways is the fifth largest airline in the world in terms of passengers boarded and has the most comprehensive route network throughout the eastern United States of any airline and serves most major cities in the western U.S. from its hubs in Charlotte, N.C., Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. The Caribbean destinations currently served by US Airways are Bermuda; Cancun; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Nassau; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; and St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. US Airways Express provides service to Treasure Cay, Marsh Harbour, North Eleuthera, and Governors Harbour, all in the Bahamas. (7 June 2000)
