The Empresa Distribuidora del Este suspended service to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finances, General Controllers Office, National Treasury, Internal Revenue, Customs Department and the Radio Televisión Dominicana television station for arrears in payments to the power distributors. The Listin Diario says that over 20 government institutions had their power suspended over the weekend. The newspaper says they owe AES Distribuidora del Este RD$160 million. The institutions operated over the weekend using their own power plants. Most of the institutions affected operate in the El Huacal government building. The suspension affected weekend maintenance works. El Siglo newspaper reported that the government has a RD$1,000 million outstanding debt with the power distributors.
