The National Police and the City Hall of Santo Domingo agreed to rid the streets and sidewalks of Santo Domingo of ambulatory vendors, workshops, garbage deposits and visual (billboards, advertisements, signs) and noise pollution (music, power plants, mufflers). Illegal constructions will also be torn down. Ambulatory vendors install themselves wherever, alleging that they have the right to be there because they are poor and have family. The Chief of the Police, Major General Pedro de Jesús Candelier, and the Mayor of Santo Domingo, Juan de Dios Ventura, signed the agreement. The clean up operation starts Tuesday, when a mixed brigade of city government and police officers will hit the streets. The organizations called a press conference to announce the new clean up operation.
