El Siglo newspaper reports that in the first four months of the year government expenditures for salaries increased RD$797 million. Salaries from January to April 2000 were RD$3,623.3 million, up from RD$2,825.8 million for the same period in 1999. This is a 28% increase in the amount of money paid out in salaries. The government had announced an austerity plan last year. Simón Súarez appointed vice president CHA Dominican Simon Suarez was chosen vice president of the Caribbean Hotel Association. Simon Suarez, is vice president of Coral Hotels in the DR. He is also vice president of the Dominican Hotel & Restaurant Association. He will be sworn in the post during the upcoming Caribbean Hotel Association convention to be held in Mexico.
