Puerto Plata skylift out of service

As of noon last Friday, travel on the Puerto Plata-Isabel de Torres skylift was discontinued. Skylift general manager Danilo Hiraldo promised the skylift will be back in operation at the end of this week. He says the skylift was closed for maintenance purposes. The Ministry of Tourism oversees the operation of the skylift. Hiraldo said that an estimated 350 tourists take the lift up the 2,565 foot mountain every day while it was in operation. The trip up is worth it, as splendorous gardens and a spectacular view of Puerto Plata unfold once reaching the top. (1 August 2000)
