New government ministerial appointment announcements

President-elect Hipólito Mejía announced the appointment of Angel Miolan as a minister without portfolio in his government. The appointment of the former director of Tourism is "an award to his persistence," said the President-elect. Mejía also said that Antonio Torres is his choice to head the new Ministry of the Diaspora that will defend the interests of Dominicans that live abroad. He said expatriate Dominicans contribute upwards of US$3,000 million a year to the Dominican economy. He also announced the appointment of former Minister of the Armed Forces and Minister of Foreign Relations Ramón Emilio Jiménez to the post of minister without portfolio in charge of liaisons with allied political parties.
