Job seekers besiege government offices

With the ink not yet dry on the dismissal papers of hundreds of Fernandez administration employees, the aspirants for their vacant positions were thronging the corridors of every government office Thursday. Job seekers began forming lines in the National Palace before 8:00, which by midday had become throngs. Similar scenes were repeated at most of the state ministries and agencies. Listen Diario described the mood at the Agriculture Ministry as one of ?joy and sadness,? as well-wishers of the new Secretary, Eligio Jaquez, danced to merengue music in the lobby, fearful Fernandez-holdovers paced nervously as they awaited an uncertain future. PRD Party stalwarts, as well as friends, relatives and neighbors of newly named functionaries mobbed executive offices throughout.
