President Hipólito Mejía announced that he will soon create the Ministry of Foreign Trade (Secretaría de Comercio Exterior). Osmar Benítez, executive vice president of the Dominican Agribusiness Council (Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana) has been said to be the first minister of the new department. Meanwhile, President Mejía announced the appointment of Rolando Galván as the new director of the Dominican Center for the Promotion of Exports (CEDOPEX). Cedopex would be a department of the new ministry. President Mejía said that his government will assist the private sector in regaining Caribbean and New York City markets.
