New senators sworn in

President of the Senate, Ramón Alburquerque swore in four new senators that will replace the four senators that have taken jobs in the Mejía cabinet. These are: José Antonio Najri as senator for Santo Domingo, replacing today Vice President and Minister of Education Milagros Ortíz Bosch. Cesar Augusto Matías as senator for Valverde replacing Fernando Alvarez Bogaert appointed Minister of Finances. Ramiro Espino as senator for Samana replacing Milton Ray Guevara appointed Minister of Labor. Pedro Antonio Luna as senator for Sanchez Ramírez replacing Vicente Sánchez Baret appointed director of Customs House. Najri is a well-known businessman who was Minister of Industry and Commerce during the 1982-86 PRD-Salvador Jorge Blanco presidency. Matías is a lawyer from the province of Valverde where he acts as president of the PRD. Espino is an economist from Samana. And Luna is a rice farmer from Sánchez Ramírez province.
