False kidnapping in town hotel

News reports say that for around seven hours the people of La Romana yesterday lived hours of tension under the impression there had been a kidnapping at the Hotel Restaurant Adamanay, a cheap La Romana hotel. At 10:45 am two individuals showed up at the hotel, tied up five employees, and stole RD$4,000. They were able to escape using a ladder that led them to an empty lot. The tension was caused when one of the employees of the hotel, a Haitian cleaning lady identified as Tatá, scared by seeing the men holding guns, locked herself in one of the hotel rooms. The police arrived early to the hotel, as other hotel employees found suspicious that no one was coming out of the office of the hotel, and the calls were not being answered. The assailants were able to leave the hotel prior to the arrival of the first police patrol, but everyone presumed they were locked in the room with Tatá who did not open the door. TV coverage and all sorts of equipment of the police force and ambulances were sent in to detain the assailants and rescue the Haitian. Around 5:30 pm an employee who spoke Patois was able to get a response from Tatá, who it turned out did not open the door of the room before because she was too scared.
