President Hipólito Mejía appointed engineer Jose Daniel del Rosario Valdez as the new executive director of the Oficina de Promoción de Inversión Extranjera. He will have the rank of ambassador. In Decree 532-00, he also created a support committee for the office, to be known as Comité Consultivo y de Apoyo Institucional al Organismo. Members of this committee are the legal consultant to the Executive Branch, the Minister of Foreign Relations, the Technical Secretary of the Presidency, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, the Minister of Finances, Minister of Tourism, Governor of the Central Bank and Lomé coordinator. The private sector will be represented by the Dominican Association of Foreign Businesses (ASIEX), Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona), Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce, Agribusiness Council, American Chamber of Commerce, Federation of European Chambers of Commerce and the Dominican Association of Exporters.
