Banco Popular and Codetel alliance for e-commerce

Banco Popular and Codetel will develop an electronic commerce platform to create a marketplace where national and international companies can trade by telephone in pesos and dollars. The strategic e-commerce strategy was announced yesterday by Banco Popular e-commerce vice president Miguel Faxas, and Codetel advanced communications vice president, Rafael Zorrillo. An unnamed third party will participate providing leading technology. Faxas said that the bank will provide banking and insurance services, as well as modern payment means for the purchase of products and services. Zorrillo said that Codetel is in charge of technology platforms for access to the marketplace, web hosting and online security. Codetel is the leading ISP in the DR, with 80% of Internet connections. Banco Popular is the largest bank in the DR with assets of more than RD$30,000 million and more than 100 offices nationwide.
