Listin Diario newspaper reports that there are 1,856,483 vehicles in the DR (pop. about 8.5 million) as of June 2000. Of these vehicles, 60% are motorcycles. From 31 December 1999 to 1 June 2000, 163,087 new vehicles were registered.
