Participación Ciudadana has requested that the Attorney General investigate the management of congressional funds by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rafaela Alburquerque. The request by the civic organization was made on Friday through the Department of Prevention of Corruption and was deposited in the Chamber of Accounts, also. The organization requests that the Attorney General’s office investigate the appropriation of public funds through three non-profit organizations and the granting of benefits to persons regarding the land transaction and the construction of the multimillion social club of the Chamber of Deputies. Also being questioned are who were the recipients of RD$8 million in disbursements for the purchase of vehicles. The irregularities were denounced by investigative journalist Nuria Piera. Deputy Alburquerque says she has always properly managed the funds of the organization. She said she would consult her lawyers prior to responding to the charges.
