A mission from Japan arrived yesterday on board a 747-400 to prepare for the visit of Emperor Akihito of Japan in December. The Japanese Emperor will visit the DR as part of a tour of the region. President Hipolito Mejia confirmed that he has plans to travel to Japan to meet with the Emperor. President Mejía said he has high hopes for this visit that might open the doors of the DR to increased Japanese investment. "That would be interesting because there is lots of money (cuaito, said the President in Spanish) over there," he said. President Mejía would be the second Dominican statesman to visit Japan. President Leonel Fernández did so in 1999.
