It could happen again

While when the Fortaleza General Antonio Duvergé was built it was at the outskirts of San Cristóbal, with time the city has engulfed it and today it is centrally located. El Caribe points out that the situation could occur in six other Dominican cities where there are weapons deposits. These bases are located in: National District (Santo Domingo): Primera Brigada, Km. 25 of the Autopista Duarte, Fortaleza de Capotillo, Comando de Apoyo y Combate in Villa Mella, Air Base San Isidro and the Naval Base 27 de Febrero. Other brigades are located in Santiago (central), Valverde (northwest), San Juan de la Maguana in the southwest and San Pedro de Macorís in the southeast. El Caribe points out this is the third time munitions deposit blows. The first explosion occurred in 1937 at the San Gerónimo Castle in Santo Domingo. A second causing around 100 deaths occurred at the Villa Duarte deposit of the army at Campamento 27 de Febrero in Villa Duarte.
